Digital Television broadcasting in Indonesia is not inevitable existence. Digital broadcasting system is a very rapid development in the world of broadcasting where there is an increase in service capacity through the efficient utilization of radio frequency spectrum. Digital television broadcasting system is not only capable of delivering image data and sound but also has a multifunctional and multimedia capabilities such as interactive services and even disaster early warning information .
Starting early 2012, Indonesia through the  Peraturan Menteri Kominfo No. 05 tahun 2012, adopting digital television terrestrial broadcasting standard is Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial second generation (DVB-T2) which the development of a digital DVB- T standard previously set in 2007. In this case, the government is trying to adapt to rapid technological developments and take it as an opportunity for the development of the national broadcasting industry forward. Before the digital set standards, the government must first conduct a study and public consultation involving all relevant stakeholders.

Terrestrial digital television is broadcasting that uses radio frequency VHF / UHF as well as analog broadcasting, but with digital content formats. In analog television broadcasting, the farther away from the television station transmitter signal got weaker and reception will be poor and shaded images. As with the digital television broadcasting continues to deliver crystal clear picture and sound to the point where the signal is no longer acceptable. In short, Digital TV broadcasting only recognize two states: Accept (1) or not (0). That is, if the receiving device can capture digital broadcast signal, the broadcast program will be accepted. Conversely, if the signal is not received then the image does not appear sound. With digital broadcasts, sound quality of the received image viewers much better than analog broadcasts , where there is no ghosting or any form of noise on the TV monitor . In the era of digital broadcasting , viewers not only watch the TV broadcast programs but also can get additional facilities such as EPG ( Electronic Program Guide ) to determine the events that have been and will be aired later . With digital broadcasting, there ability to provide interactive services where viewers can directly give a rating to the voice broadcast program .

All countries should have established the migration from analogue to digital broadcasting. Developed countries in Europe and the United States have even shut off analog broadcasts (analog switch - off) and switch to digital broadcasting. The Indonesian government stipulates that no later than the implementation of digital broadcasting started in 2012 and in subsequent years in the big cities that have digital broadcasting will be done analogue switch-off. In the roadmap implementation of digital television broadcasting, government plans that 2018 will be the analog switch-off nationally. Therefore, since now the public and industry stakeholders in order to prepare for the migration from analogue television broadcasting era into the age of digital television broadcasting .
